How to understand Fire Growth
In this article, we'll cover:
- Timeline as a concept
- How it influences the data displayed
- Using Time Lapse to analyze fire growth over time
The Concept of Timeline in WFS
One of the key aspects of the Wildfire Solution platform is its temporal framework. Every piece of information displayed on your screen reflects data captured within a specific time frame. This temporal flexibility is crucial for understanding how fires develop and how to track incidents accurately.
By default, the platform displays data from the past two days. However, you can use custom filters to view data from the past 24 hours, 7 days, or even 1 month. For users needing a more comprehensive historical analysis, the platform allows you to access data dating back to 2019.
Your timeline can be found on the bottom right corner of your screen.
All Icons within the timeline are clickable! To select specific dates and time frames, you can click on the date.
Cluster Lifetime and Timestamp Adjustments
Within the Cluster Detail Menu, you’ll find critical information on the cluster lifetime, shown with an arrow icon next to it.
Clicking this arrow automatically adjusts your timeline to match the selected cluster’s specific time frame.
This means all hotspot and cluster data shown on the map will align with that timestamp, allowing you to focus on the precise moment when the cluster was active.
Note that this historical adjustment applies only to hotspot and cluster data. Other dynamic data sources, such as Weather Data and Fire Spread predictions, reflect only the most current information and are not available in historical format.
Using the Time Lapse Feature to Understand Fire Growth
To gain deeper insights into fire development, the Time Lapse feature offers a valuable perspective by recreating the timeline of fire detections.
This tool enables you to observe when and where a fire started and how it progressed over time, giving you a clearer view of its growth and potential spread patterns.
The Time Lapse feature can be particularly useful for post-incident analysis, training scenarios, and planning future response strategies.
By leveraging the Time Lapse alongside the Cluster Detail Menu, you can achieve a comprehensive temporal view of each incident, supporting both immediate decision-making and long-term strategy planning.
